You know sometimes, you watch a film you have not seen in ages and it suddenly hits you just how amazing it is? I did that last night with Pretty Woman. I've always loved it, but I think it's been such a long time since I last watched it and I'd already forgotten how wonderful it is.
Julia Roberts was superb in this movie. I've just noticed that she was only 22 in Pretty Woman, but she was impossibly lovely and charming throughout. And despite the big hair and massive eyebrows, the style of the characters in this movie was also very impressive, considering it was made 21 years ago! The red dress she wore to the opera with Edward (Richard Gere) was definitely a WOW factor, it was stunning, elegant and sexy, even for now.
In honour of the 20th anniversary of this movie last year,Elle.com interviewed the costume designer, Marilyn Vance. Unlike today, where costume designers in movies often do more of a stylist job, sourcing various different clothes and then putting them together,Marilyn Vance actually designed and made the majority of the costumes (including this red gown) in Pretty Woman.
